If you really thought about it, insurance just isn’t that interesting.  In fact, next to watching grass grow it really isn’t entertaining at all.  But the truth is it is a necessary part of our lives and it is something that is better left to health insurance brokers.  They are the professionals who know what is required and how to get it accomplished.

But acquiring this title is no easy task.  It takes countless hours of studying, numerous courses on various levels and finally at least one, and sometimes two major tests.  Only then do they carry the distinction of being a qualified professional in the industry.  But usually the learning does not stop there.  In many cases, there are additional courses that must be taken in order to further the knowledge base and place themselves among the top members of their field.

These individuals make their living from the sale of policies on a single basis or as a family plan.  The commission structure is such that it takes a great number of plans to provide a living for a salesperson.  In order to establish themselves they must work diligently, first as a counselor providing services to those with a need, but also as mediator between the policy holder and the insurance companies.  Since the companies will never actually meet their customers it is up to the salesperson to make that connection and represent both parties.

One of the problems that is ever increasing is the number of people who rely on the internet for their policy answers.  This makes it more difficult for the salesman since the computer opens up the entire spectrum of companies to customers seeking coverage.  This is why salesmen not only make themselves experts in order to sufficiently answer questions, but also become familiar with the policies of their competitors in order to match their programs and provide similar coverage of their own.

The position of health insurance brokers is a very important one since they take on the roles of information specialist, liaison, salesman, and administrator.  It is a role they take very seriously, because it is a very serious subject for all of us.
